      The following dedication is on the title-page: "This book is dedicated to the ladies who have kindly given their names as patronesses; and also to those who have so kindly helped by sending recipes. J. A. B." I have taken J. A. B. to be the compiler. Below the dedication is the quotation ""We may live without books, but we cannot live without cooks." # Lord Lytton." An errata slip is bound in before the title-page on page 1.
      Although this volume conforms to the fund-raising type of cookery book, the text does not reveal any special purpose for the book's publication.
