BAIRD, Edith Harbison

DLC cites Baird, Edith Harbison as the unnamed compiler of "365 chafing-dish recipes", Philadelphia: George W. Jacobs and Co, [1912]. @ Baird may also have compiled "365 dishes of all nations". See under that title. @DLC's name authority card for Baird contains a 1917 letter from an unnamed bookdealer saying that Edith Harbison Baird and Edith Gwendolyn Harbison # compiler of "Low cost recipes", Philadelphia: G. W. Jacobs and Co, [1914] # are the same person; however, the library was unable to verify this with either author or publisher.

This is the British edition of the American work, "365 chafing-dish recipes", for which DLC cites Baird, Edith Harbison as the unnamed compiler. Baird remains unnamed in this edition while Mrs Charles Marshall [Mrs Janet Sophia Marshall] is cited on the title-page as the editor. Mrs Marshall has edited the recipes for British readers, for example, by changing American measurements by volume to pounds and ounces. ICJ, which has both the American and British editions, reports that the sequence of recipes appears to be identical in the two volumes.
Printed on the verso of the half-title is "Copyright in U.S.A., 1912, by George W. Jacobs & Co." OB dates the book [1912]; LB and LoEN date it [1913].
The title is listed in Dean and Son's advertisement on page i as No. 14 in "The "365" series of cookery books".
Mrs Marshall wrote several cookery books, including other volumes in "The "365" series". For a description of these books and for information about their author, see Marshall, Mrs Janet Sophia. See also und
