The title-page is on page v following a leaf of advertisements. There are 354 numbered recipes preceded by much information on different ingredients, particularly vinegars, spices and herbs, and a section on curries which discusses catering for an Indian prince. On pages 6-8 under the heading "A cosmopolitan chef and his work' the author describes his culinary career and stresses "the necessity for sufficiently liberal ideas and knowledge'. LoEN dates this edition .
Stamped in black ink on the title-page of the LoEN copy is the number 186, and on the title-page of the OB copy, 178.

An advertisement for "Modern French and English cookery' on page xiii of the OPo(F) copy of Bautte's "Hors-d'oeuvres' gives the price of 16s 6d for the volume.
