      "First published in 1914" is printed on the verso of the title-page. The preface is signed "A. M. Phillips November 1914". It says that the book "is intended to serve as a reader on domestic science for girls in elementary and secondary schools, and to be used as an adjunct to the practical work of a centre". The text is in three parts: "Cookery chats" by A. M. Phillips, pages 1-82; "Laundry chats" by A. M. Phillips, pages 83-111; and "Household management" by C. L. Dean, pages 112-164.
