Lankester refers to the time Miss Harrison has given to furthering "our County Council work' and says that this book of cottage cookery embodies "the recipes and directions which she has written specially for our lecturers'.

      The verso of the title-page of the 1929 edition and Axford 262 and Bitting 216 say that the first edition was published in 1893. This is incorrect since Sampson Low, Marston and Co Ltd issued an edition in 1891. I have not found a copy of the 1893 edition.% 2057

      The cover-title is "Mary Harrison's cookery book'.
      I have not found a numbered sixth edition and this "new edition' appears to take its place. The new edition probably precedes the seventh edition since there is still a comma following "economy' on the title-page, following the pattern of the first and fifth editions. An advertisement on page v at the back of the book which cites a medal won at the Food and Cookery Exhibition of 1895 suggests that this edition was published about that date.% 2168
