EpicureDir 1899 lists Miss Lizzie Heritage as teacher of cookery and domestic economy with a First-Class Diploma, National Training School, No. 220, 16 June 1886, and cites Sherbourne Cottage, Coventry, as her address.       The preface is by Le2onard Gru4nenfelder, Chef of the Grand Hotel, London, and formerly Chef of the Reform Club. The introduction is dated September 1894. There is a chapter on the management and duties of servants by Phyllis Browne.

      This is a retitled edition of "Cassell's new universal cookery book'. Pages lxii-lxxi of the new introduction by Thudichum comprise a section called "A sketch of the historical literature of cookery'.
      The OB copy is the version issued in eleven monthly parts at 6d each, and retains the original paper binding for each part.
      The private collector's copy is quarter-bound in green leather and red cloth.

      An advertisement for "Cassell's household cookery' in the undated edition of A. G. Payne's "Cassell's popular cookery' cites the price of the book as 5s, or 6s in a special waterproof binding.

      The preface is dated October 1897.
      Although all the library copies are dated [1897], they vary in the number of pages of advertisements and sometimes in price. The LoEN and OB copies have two pages of advertisements preceding the title-page on page i, like the private collector's copy, but they have only two pages of advertisements following page 184. The LWel copy has four pages of advertisements at the front and three at the back; the price of 1s is cited on the binding. The LB copy has no advertisements at front and back; like the LWel copy, the price on the binding is 1s.
