      The preface is signed "Henrietta A. Hervey, the wife of a retired Indian officer. Hammersmith, W., November, 1894.' In the preface the author refers to her twenty-three years of married life in various parts of India. There are chapters on soups, fish, curries, rice, savoury dishes, puddings, sweets, fresh "sumbaloos' or chutnies, bottled chutnies and pickles.
