NEIL, Miss Marion Harris

A note on page 2 of the seventh edition of "Cox's manual of gelatine cookery' thanks, among others, "Miss Marion H. Neil, formerly of Glasgow, and now of Philadelphia, USA', for her aid in compiling the seventh edition (I have traced three printings of the seventh edition dated [copyright 1909], 1911 and 1935, respectively; for a full history of the book, see Roberts, Bertha). EpicureDir 1909 adds the information that Miss Neil held a Diploma from the Glasgow West End School. If Miss Neil's original training was in Glasgow, most of her professional life seems to have been spent in the United States. Indeed, many of her publications were issued solely in the States (see especially Bitting 340 and 341, and the holdings of NNNAM). "Salads, sandwiches, and chafing dish recipes' and "The thrift cook book', which both appeared in British editions, were first published after 1914 and so are outside the scope of this bibliography.
