      There are eight chapters called "Reasons for dieting', "The new theory', "Difficulties', "Advantages', "Children', "Humanitarianism", "Cooking receipts' and "Growing and cooking vegetables'. The writers promote vegetarianism with an emphasis on the uric-acid-free diet.

      The authors sign themselves Maria Theresa Earle and Violet Bryan on page 14. Despite the reference on the title-page to eighty recipes, there are ninety numbered vegetarian recipes, the last ten of which are for invalid cookery.
      LB and OB date this edition [1906]. There is a clue to the book's date in an advertisement for Neave's Food on the inside face of the binding which cites a medal awarded at the International Health, Beauty and Toilet Exhibition, London, 1906.
