FUR AND FEATHER SERIES

  • FUR AND FEATHER SERIES
    • 1. Edited by Alfred E. T. Watson, this series was later known as the "Fur, feather and fin series'. Each volume treated the natural history, hunting and cooking of one kind of game. Although the final chapter on cookery in each volume forms a small proportion of the whole, the series did make a contribution to the specialist field of game cookery. George Edward Bateman Saintsbury (1845-1933) wrote the cookery chapter for "The grouse' and "The partridge", Colonel Arthur Robert Kenney-Herbert (1840-1916) was the cookery writer for "The hare', and Alexander Innes Shand (1832-1907) authored the cookery chapter for the remaining titles. For the individual entries for each title in the series see: Gathorne-Hardy, Hon. Alfred Erskine {{et al}}, "The salmon'; Harting, James Edmund and Alexander Innes Shand, "The rabbit'; Macpherson, Rev. Hugh Alexander {{et al}}, "The grouse', "The hare", "The partridge', "The pheasant' and "Red deer"; Manners, Henry John Brinsley {{et al}}, "The trout"; Senior, William {{et al}}, "Pike and perch'; Shaw, L. H. de Visme {{et al}}, "Snipe and woodcock' and "Wild-fowl'.% 1087
