COMBE, Andrew   1797-1847


Andrew Combe was a physiologist and phrenologist with a medical practice in Edinburgh. He published a number of popular health treatises between 1831 and 1840.

      Despite its daunting title, this book was intended as a practical manual for mothers, with chapters on infant mortality, the mother's health and diet, the nursery, feeding, choice of wet-nurse, artificial feeding, weaning, hygiene, exercise, sleep, teething, the second year of infancy, moral training and mental development.
