The frontispiece engravings show women consulting the "Medical adviser'. The remaining plates include one of "The Living Skeleton' by Cruikshank.
The second volume contains three separate appendices on "The Living Skeleton', Claude Ambroise Seurat.
These volumes draw on material which appeared in the periodical "The medical adviser, and guide to health and long life', first issued in December 1823. It was a weekly magazine priced at 3d, which entertained its readers with tales of medical curiosities as well as supplying advice and information.
