BUCKTON, Catherine M.   


Catherine Buckton was instrumental in persuading the Education Department to allow the teaching of domestic economy to girls in elementary schools. She was elected to the Leeds School Board in 1873 with that aim in mind, and the Code providing for the teaching of domestic economy was introduced in 1876. See also: Domestic service.
