      The binding is unusual and fanciful, with gilt card covers tied with blue ribbon in a matching slipcase.
      Each of the thirteen chapter headings begins "The art of', and the contents range from keeping house and managing servants to making friends and growing old gracefully.
      The author's style is personal and whimsical and she bases her advice on numerous anecdotes. The book seems to have been designed and packaged to appeal to the social aspirations of readers of "The gentlewoman'.
