1. This is almost certainly an anonymous 1st ed. of a previously cited work; see under earlier entry: HILL, John, The old man's guide.
2. This 2nd ed. is identical to the 2nd ed. given as the main entry for a previously cited work, except that this book was published anonymously; see under earlier entry: HILL, John, The old man's guide. It is possible that the bookseller (or booksellers) has an arrangement with the author whereby he kept the profits from the books which carried his name, while his distributor (or distributors) kept the profits from the identical but anonymous edition. Too little is known about the financial aspect of publishing books, magazines, and newspapers in the 18th century, unless they were sold by subscription.
