      This is not a recipe book. In the first nineteen chapters the author offers hints and advice on different types of dish from hors d'oeuvres and soups to drinks and dessert and discusses bills of fare, table garniture and decoration and batterie de cuisine. Only the last chapter, the twentieth, comprises recipes. In the introduction, which is dated Tonbridge, October 1891, she states that her chief aim "is so to deal with the daily te3te-a1-te3te dinner that an unexpected guest will make little or no difference in expense or trouble, and that, with a very slight expenditure of both, it may be expanded into a miniature dinner-party of four or six people'.
      LB dates this book 1892 [1891]. It is likely that the only entry for "Dinners in miniature' in EngCat, which gives December 1891 as the date of publication, refers to this edition. Since I have not found any edition dated 1891 on the title-page, I suspect that the entries in Bitting 139 and Axford 118 for an earlier edition than that described here are incorr
