Born Mary Elizabeth Joce in Kerscott, Swimbridge, Devon, this writer married Henry Pennell Whitcombe in 1862. She died in London in 1887. Biographical entries for her are in "Bibliotheca Cornubiensis" by George Clement Boase and William Prideaux Courtney, London: Longmans, Green, Reader and Dyer, 1878, and in "Modern English biography" by Frederic Boase, Truro: Netherton and Worth for the author, 1901.

  • Cheap choice cookery for small families
  • Subjects: general,

    • 1. [First(?) edition of "Cheap choice cookery for small families", 1884]

This edition, probably the first, is cited in EngCat as published by Dean and costing 6d. An edition of 1884 is also cited in the entry for Mary Elizabeth Whitcombe in Boase's "Modern English biography". Although the title in the Boase entry, "Cheap choice {{cooking}} for small families", varies slightly from EngCat, the entry likely refers to the same 1884 edition.
