      The preface is signed "R. Wilkinson. 76, Lavender Sweep, London, S.W. 1891." In the preface the author refers to her sixteen years of professional experience as a teacher and demonstrator of cookery. The text contains 516 numbered recipes. Advertisements at the back of the book for Wilkinson's Curry and different flavours of Mrs Wilkinson's essences reveal that this writer also sold her own-name products.

      There is a preface to the third edition signed "Rose Brown, M.C.A. Crown Hill, Croydon, Surrey. 1895." Miss Brown states in the preface, "Having acted as assistant to the late Mrs Wilkinson, profiting by her able advice in my studies, and finding that her executors did not intend to publish another edition of her cookery book, I purchased from them all interest in the same." The text of this edition contains 541 numbered recipes.
