WRIGHT, Miss Christian E. Guthrie

LB catalogues the author of "The school cookery book" under Wright, Miss Christian E. Guthrie. EpicureDir 1899, page 69, cites Miss Guthrie-Wright as Honorary Secretary of the Edinburgh School of Cookery and Domestic Economy Ltd and gives her address as 26 Shandwicke Place, Edinburgh. Miss Wright describes herself as "a native of Glasgow" in a letter of 12 November 1875 which is printed on page 6 of "Century of change 1875-1975: one hundred years of training home economics' students in Glasgow" by Ellice Miller, [Glasgow: The Queen's College, 1975].

The influence of "The school cookery book" endured into the 1930s: the preface of "The Edinburgh book of plain cookery recipes" published in 1932 acknowledges that the following text "owes not a little to the "School cookery book"" (see "Plain cookery recipes").
