The recipes are grouped alphabetically by their first letter. Some are unusual: "African omelette' uses giraffe marrow and is "only suitable for travellers in South Africa'; "Caffre land pudding' uses 100 pounds of flour to make small biscuits or loaves to keep several months; "The Rajah of Mysore's pudding' and "Bombay toast' add an Indian flavour to the collection.
The publisher's advertisements differ in the LB copy. The pagination runs [1-2] publ ad, [i-v] vi-ix [x],  2-129, [i] blank,  2-31  publ ads dated December 1876.
