    The preface, which is dated September 1893, states that the book is designed to help hotel and restaurant waiters and employees, the dining-out public and tourists to compile or read a menu. The pages are divided into two columns, with the French and English names of foods on the verso of each leaf facing the German and Swedish translations on the recto of the following leaf.
