    On the front end-paper of the OPo(F) copy is the inscription "To Miss MacKirdy with the author's kindest regards December 12th 1893'. This Miss MacKirdy was probably one of Margaret Black's two nieces, the elder of whom succeeded her as Principal of the West End School on her death.
