    In the preface, which is dated January 1903, the author thanks Mrs Whyte and Miss Manders for allowing her to use some of their recipes in the chapter on sweetmaking (entries for books by Whyte and Manders are under their respective names). The text contains 950 numbered recipes in three sections entitled "Simple cookery', "Household cookery' and "Superior cookery'.
