    Five small apples are printed across the top of the title-page. The author records on page 3 that "forty-four thousand copies of a small booklet with this title have been circulated at the price of a penny. In this edition the previous one is entirely discarded, and "Fruits, nuts and vegetables" appears as a new book, considerably enlarged". The text begins with vegetarian theory, followed by entries for various fruits, nuts and vegetables arranged alphabetically, from almond to wheat. Each entry is accompanied by recipes.
