Miss Catherine Frances Frere explains in the preface, which is dated April 1909, that she edited Lady Clark's manuscript cookery books on the request of her husband. They were written by Lady Clark beginning in 1841, except for one book compiled by her mother, Lady Coltman, in 1839.
Frere also edited "A proper newe booke of cokerye' published in 1913 (see Frere) and Hildagonda Duckitt's two cookery books (see Duckitt).
