  The anonymous author refers in the preface to the American sweet potatoes, pumpkins, cranberries and peaches which were then becoming "quite familiar sights in the London market", and introduces the English cook to the American method of measuring in cups and spoons which she uses in the 170 numbered recipes that follow. The title-page, on page i, is the first printed page.
