    There are 334 numbered recipes. The text is arranged in three sections: artisan cookery on pages 1-91, household cookery on pages 92-250, and notes on scullery work on pages 251-259. Of the introductory material, the title-page is on page i, an advertisement is on page ii, the contents are on page iii, page iv is blank, and a lengthy list of errata is on pages v-vi. There are twelve blank, ruled leaves between pages iv-v and also between pages 260-261. This edition has no preface which suggests that it may precede the unnumbered edition described immediately below.
    The ScGQ copy bears the signature on the front end-paper of Dorothy H. Melvin, the woman who succeeded Ella Glaister as principal in 1910. The copy has been marked up with editorial changes which are incorporated in the fifth edition.

There are twelve blank, ruled leaves between pages viii-ix and also between pages 260-261.
    The preface is signed "E. Glaister.' It states, "This book has been compiled specially for the use of students in training as teachers of cookery at this college'. The preface does not specify the edition number of the book.

    General comments: NUCat lists a 378-page edition, Glasgow: N. Adshead and Son, nd, held by NIC, but does not specify the number of the edition. LB holds an unnumbered edition with the same imprint which it dates [1945'].
    A second revised edition was published in Glasgow by J. Smith in 1954 and reprinted in 1955. The verso of the title-page of the 1973 edition lists a new and revised edition in 1962 which was reprinted in 1965 and 1967, and a revised edition in 1970. A centenary edition in metric was issued in 1975.% 1154
