  Chavasse uses a question and answer format to present his advice on how mothers should treat their children. The questions touch on a wide range of matters - for example, "Do you approve of youths wearing flannel next the skin?' "Have you any remarks to make on female dress?' A substantial number of questions deal with children's diet, the author recommending week-old bread and an avoidance of vegetables.
