Glasgow: printed at the University Press by Robert Maclehose and Co; 1900
21.5 x 17.0 cm Pp [1-3] 4-28 Blue paper
Printed on the verso of the title-page is "Read to the Archaeological Society of Glasgow, 17th March, 1898. 100 copies reprinted.' This paper describes books of receipts in English dating from 1550 to 1650, beginning the discussion of English books of secrets from the mid-sixteenth century to about 1700. Although Ferguson says on page 3 that he intends to cover the period up to the early years of 1800, he found so much material in the course of writing this and the following papers that by the seventh supplement he had only reached 1700.
