The author says in the preface that the book "was intended in furtherance of "fungus eating."' He then discusses in the first chapter what people, where and when have eaten fungi. Separate chapters for each fungus or group of fungi follow in which he tells how to recognise the particular type of fungus, where and with whom it is popular, and how to cook it. The colour plates are particularly striking.
