    1. George Dalrymple describes himself as 'late cook to Sir ]ohn Whitefoord, Bart, and he dedicated his work to Lady Whitefoord. It is interesting to note that he named receipts in both English and French, and that he was one of the first cookery writers to give a glossary of terms.
