    1. The 1797 ed. is almost certainly a spurious and pirated version of a book first published in 1783, which went into its 8th ed. in 1796; see under earlier entry: FARLEY, John, The London art of cookery.
    2. The 1797 entry is based on Rudolph, pp. 78-9. For a copy that is (or was) in the British Isles; see B.& G.Cat., No. 27, p. 14.
