    1. This work is based on translations from two of the author's books: Le Cuisinier roial et bourgeois, (Paris, 1691), and Nouvelle instruction pour les conjitures, les liqueurs, et les fruits (Paris, 1 692); see Vicaire, pp. 4 534. Vicaire ascribes the authorship of the former, but not the latter, to Francois Massialot. Oxford, p. 48, noted Vicaire's work and confirms that Massialot wrote both books.
    2. The LeU(B) copy is inscribed: 'Mary Bentley her Booke, 1785'.
