1. This work is based on translations from two of the author's books: Le Cuisinier roial et bourgeois, (Paris, 1691), and Nouvelle instruction pour les conjitures, les liqueurs, et les fruits (Paris, 1 692); see Vicaire, pp. 4 53—4. Vicaire ascribes the authorship of the former, but not the latter, to Francois Massialot. Oxford, p. 48, noted Vicaire's work and confirms that Massialot wrote both books.
