    In an introductory note, dated Hertfordshire, December 1884, d'Avigdor acknowledges his debt to the proprietor of "Vanity fair` for "permission to publish, in a collected and amended form, a number of articles which have appeared at various times in his paper.` The author discusses the cuisine of various countries in the following text. His conclusion is that only French cookery will please everyone of refined taste.
