    Printed on the title-page is the quotation ""To search the secrets of a salad"'. The preface describes the book as an "American manual' and says that "the three hundred recipes given here from the "land of salads^` will probably come as a surprise to the English cook'.% American editions: NUCat records New York: G. R. Knapp, 1899, and editions dated [1900], 1909, 1919 and 1923, all published in New York by Doubleday, Page and Co. AzSA holds New York: McClure, Phillips and Co, 1900. CBCat 23 lists a New York edition of 1912 and JCCat 10 an American edition of 1926.
