  The preface is dated London, October 1897.% @The author says that "her intention has been merely to provide a little handbook of reference for those who already know something about cookery, and yet would be glad of recipes which, though slightly out of the common, are nevertheless practical and simple.' The recipes are for "dishes usually found on Continental tables'. Livelier than most books aimed at the mass market, the text is spiced with the author's hints and opinions, and references to her surroundings.% @The LoEN copy is bound in yellow cloth with a broken nutshell printed on the front face.
