    The title-page is printed in red and black. The frontispiece is a sketch of Groote Poste, the author's homestead. The preface is signed "H. J. D. St. Lucia, Waterloo Green, Wynberg, October 1901.`
    In the introduction, subtitled "My old home', the author describes her family life in the Cape. She then discusses her cookery throughout the year in chapters devoted to each month.
