The title-page is printed in red and black. A floral border surrounds the title and author. The title-pages of all the editions that I have seen, up to and including the 1914 edition, are also printed in red and black and have the same border.
In the preface Janet Ross says that many of the recipes were dictated by "our good Giuseppe Volpi... who has been known to our friends for over thirty years" (the frontispiece is a portrait of Volpi in the kitchen at the author's villa). She also acknowledges "Sigri. Fratelli Ingegnoli of Milan, who have permitted [her] to use and translate... from their excellent little book "Come si cucinano i legumi". The recipes are arranged alphabetically by vegetable and also under other headings such as macaroni, sauces and soups.

The 1936 edition was the last before the revision by Michael Waterfield in 1973 (see below).% General comments: In 1973 John Murray of London published "Leaves from our Tuscan kitchen or how to cook vegetables by Janet Ross and Michael Waterfield" (copies in LB and OB). Waterfield, Janet Ross' great-great-nephew and a restaurateur, has thoroughly revised and rewritten the recipes. The original narrative form is replaced by a separation of ingredients and recipe method. The foreword by Harry Luke includes a short biography of Janet Ross.
